Elage Diouf

From Montreal, Quebec

Initiated at a very young age to music and percussions, the Senegalese-born Canadian singer-songwriter Élage Diouf got involved upon his arrival in numerous projects with Quebec musicians, most notably with Les Colocs.

After releasing an album with his brother in 2001, he participated in the Délirium show and toured the world with the Cirque du Soleil.

In 2010, he was back on disc with a first solo album titled « Aksil ». The album won Best World Music Album of the Year at the Junos, and Best World Music Album at the Gala de l’ADISQ. Élage was named Relevation Artist by CBC/Radio-Canada’s Espace-Musique, and was awarded the Galaxie Rising Star Award for his performance at Mundial Montreal.

Over the past three years, Élage performed close to 200 concerts, notably at Womex 2011 (Denmark), the Louisiana International Festival, and the Montreal FrancoFolies, where he shared the Metropolis stage with Salif Keita.

To honor his contribution to the artistic world, deputies of the National Quebec Assembly gave an homage in the Chamber on December 7, 2011. More recently, he was granted the Hagood-Hardy Award during the 23rd annual SOCAN Gala. The Hagood-Hardy Award is granted every year to an artist who made a significant contribution to jazz, instrumental or world music.
