Born in Port-au-Prince, Jessica "SIKA" Valmé is known for her peculiar poignant voice tinted with soul that rises deep within her and pulls the listener in close with intimate explorations of the human condition.

A singer and musician, her métis contemporary folk is rhythmic and expressed in English, French or Haitian Créole, freely flowing from a feeling. Sika is concerned with this catalyst capacity that stands out and inspires in artists like Sinead O'Connor, Tracy Chapman or Kinnie Starr.

Using simple words and forward intentions she translates silences, emotions and behaviours that sweat off our delicate human relationships. Driven by performance art, she first studies visual arts, then invests her musical insights in bands before deciding to venture in a solo act. Her first EP album "Colour Your Walls" (2012) is self-produced, completed in Florida with producer Andy Barrow and unveils an edgy talent.

The Mirror gives it a 9/10, Entre Elles lgbt magazine confirms it's "an unusual surprising effort mixing folk and electro... "(2011), Urbania magazine traces Sika as part of "Montreal's anglo's bet kept secrets"(2013). This accomplishment rewards her with a position in the Montreal independent underground music scene, performances on Québec's Plaines d'Abraham, in Toronto at the Carassauga festival and currently a couple dates at the Maison de la Culture.

Sika performs in various contexts with Body Slam an interdisciplinary improv collective, with her band as a trio or alone with the guitar. "Music is to be felt, the feeling within goes beyond the sound" she says it so well, maybe the circus one day. Sika is honestly uplifting and raw!
